What Great Financial Coaches Understand About People with Chris Hogan | EP 100

For the 100th episode of THE Financial Coaches Podcast, Maria and Cody are joined by Coach Chris Hogan for a wide-ranging conversation about what it really means to coach people well.

Chris shares lessons from years of coaching individuals, training financial coaches, and working with leaders and business owners. The conversation moves beyond budgets and financial knowledge into the human side of coaching: listening closely, asking better questions, understanding what someone really wants, and helping clients recognize what may be happening beneath the numbers.

They also talk about one of the harder lessons coaches eventually learn. We can guide people, provide information, ask thoughtful questions, and hold them accountable, but we cannot control what they ultimately do with it. Chris shares how he had to learn not to want the outcome more than the person he was coaching, while Maria points out that coaches shouldn’t take responsibility for every struggle—or take credit for every win.

The conversation also explores finding your own voice as a coach, creating an environment where clients don’t feel judged for their financial mistakes, and recognizing how much encouragement can matter when someone is already carrying guilt or shame around money.
